Nova Scotia’s breathtaking coastline and charming towns are a magnet for travellers seeking a relaxing and scenic escape. If you’re planning a vacation in our beautiful maritime province, consider staying at a unique rental to add a special touch and to create memories all your own.
When visiting the Lunenburg area, my hands-down recommendation is for the Ivy House.
Established in 2019, Ivy House is a boutique inn operating year-round in the picturesque, seaside town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Affectionately named after my daughter, Ivy House includes two, fully renovated suites. Both 450 sq foot suites are located on the top floor of a 150 year old, heritage home. The spaces are peaceful and designed tastefully modern, Scandinavian with a pinch of coastal.

Home Away from Home
Ivy House offers a true sense of peace and tranquility, in a central location that’s perfect for exploring the town of Lunenburg. Enjoy all the comforts of home and more! A cozy king bed with plush blankets and piles of pillows. A deep soaker tub with endless bubbles. A hot cup of tea and a sigh of contentment. Ivy House promises a comfortable and unforgettable stay.
Sneak Peek
Upon arrival, the space exceeded my expectations. With only two suites available for rent, you will enjoy peace & quiet, privacy, and a space that feels like your very own home away from home.
The room is exactly as pictured – clean, bright, crisp, and welcoming. There is a shared kitchenette area with a stocked mini-fridge, coffee & tea, snacks, as well as board games and bubble bath for guest enjoyment. You will want for nothing!
Having a sneaky view of the ocean from our bedroom window was an added bonus.

Exploring Lunenburg
Situated in the heart of Lunenburg, the home is ideally located for exploring the vibrant town on foot. Street parking is available right outside the house, and you will not need your car any more after that! On our first day there, we wandered the streets marveling at the colorful heritage homes, local art, quaint local shops, and scenic waterfront that is home to the famous Bluenose II sailboat! There are almost too many restaurants to choose from, each offering its own mouthwatering take on fresh oysters, fish & chips, and other seafood dishes.
On our second day – thanks to a secret map from the owner of the Ivy House, Tara – we ventured off to find an amazing look off point with a view of the whole town. It was a decent trek, but not difficult, and definitely worth it!
The day ended with a pile of fish & chips and smiles we couldn’t wipe off our faces. Feeling like a Lunenburg local, we were a bit sad to have to leave.
The Host with the Most
Our hostess, Tara, was exceptional. She was communicative and helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed and providing recommendations for local restaurants (and of course that secret hike). Her warm hospitality and brilliant smile truly made me feel welcome, and ensured a smooth and enjoyable stay.

Last Words
My stay at Ivy House was an absolute delight. Every aspect was blissful, from the room, to the host, and the location. If you’re seeking a comfortable and charming place to stay in Nova Scotia, I highly recommend considering this welcoming home.
