Scuba newbies from all over travel to Ko Tao to learn how to dive. The island is surrounded by crystal clear water and incredible coral reefs that are shallow enough for beginners to explore. It is also one of the world’s cheapest and most popular places to get your open-water dive certification. (However for experienced divers, the island still can’t compete with the world-famous Similan Islands or even the waters off of Ko Phi Phi). I don’t have time to list all of the available scuba outfits in the area, as they are everywhere, but if you’re looking for some first-time dive experience, this is absolutely the place to do it!
So what else does Ko Tao offer?
Royal Thai Massage
In the heart of Mae Haad, Royal Thai Massage offers quality spa treatment at low prices. If you’ve been to Thailand, you’re well aware of the multitude of massage parlors, as well as how questionable some of them may be. You have my word that this is a clean, reputable establishment that offers quality massage.

Shambhala
On the forested grounds of Blue Wind in Sairee Beach, you’ll find Ko Tao’s full-time yoga centre, Shambhala. There are classes for all levels, including drop-in classes and private lessons. Two-hour classes led by Kester, the energetic yogi, will cost you about 300 Baht ($10CDN).

Golden Travel
Golden Travel offers day-long boat trips to some of the 20-odd snorkeling sites around the island. You can find Golden Travel’s shop across from the Songserm pier in Mae Haad. Rates include lunch, equipment use and taxi service to and from your hotel, so it is an all-inclusive day! Staff also organize fishing excursions, sunset cruises, and speedboat trips to stunning Ang Thong Marine Park.
Goodtime Adventures
If you prefer an active day, check out these guys! Goodtime Adventures can get you set with scuba diving, snorkeling, rock climbing, rappelling, cliff jumping, boating, flying trapeze (!), or any half- or full-day combination of the above! With fun-loving guides and instructors from all over the globe, this crew is bound to make you feel like family.
Ali the Pancake Man
Find this spirited chef at his stand near the 7-Eleven and Big Blue Resort. He’ll dance around as he quickly and perfectly creates your snack. Watch a video of him in action – these are the crepes I was talking about in this post!!
Have you been to Ko Tao? Have you eaten the crepes?? Or have you eaten something even more delicious?! If you have anything to add to this list of activities and attractions, please comment!
